Learn how to setup Google Ads for perfect interoperability with the Converge attribution dashboard.

Setup

  1. In your Google Ads account, click Settings on the left-hand side, and then select Account settings.
  2. Paste the following tracking parameters into the Tracking Template text field:
{lpurl}?cvg_source=google&cvg_adid={creative}&cvg_cid={campaignid}

Google Ads Example with Tracking Template Filled In

📌 If you already have some tracking set up that you want to keep, you can safely append this snippet by using another &.

For example, you could have the following UTM parameters set up: {lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&,

to add the Converge parameters, change this to: {lpurl}?utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&cvg_source=google&cvg_adid={creative}&cvg_cid={campaignid}

📌 Importantly, if you also configured these parameters on the ad, ad group, or campaign level, these will be preferred. The easier solution is to centralize the tracking template into the account level settings and remove all tracking templates from your specific ads, ad groups and campaigns. If you still wish to use your existing ad, ad group or campaign-level tracking templates, then you need to append our tracking parameters at the end of the template as described above for every ad, ad group, and campaign you have running.

For the campaign level, you can go to Settings > Campaign settings > Select a campaign > Edit > Change tracking template.

For the ad and ad group level, you can go to Ad groups/Ads and assets > Select an ad group/ad > Edit > Change tracking template.

Set up New Customer Purchase Metrics

This section describes how to set up the New Customer Purchase conversion in your Google Ads Manager. We will do this through importing these events through a GA4 property in which Converge is streaming events. This will allow us to benefit from the advantages of server-side tracking.

Set up New Customer Purchase as a custom conversion

  1. Navigate to your GA4 dashboard and click on the settings icon in the bottom left corner.

    fb-2

  2. In the submenu, navigate to Events.

    fb-3

  3. Under the Events submenu, mark new_customer_purchase as a conversion, if you’d like to import any other conversions, then mark these too.

    fb-4

  4. The custom conversion is now created in GA4, time to import it into Google Ads. Navigate to Google Ads Manager, go to the Tools and Settings > Conversions submenu in the top bar and click on New conversion action.

    fb-5

  5. Choose the Import as your means of setting up the conversion and choose Google Analytics 4 properties > Web as your source of import. After that, hit Continue.

    fb-4

  6. Choose the new_customer_purchase event (and optionally other events) and click on Import and continue.

    fb-5

  7. Choose your newly created conversion from the conversions list to change its properties.

    fb-6
